I think the layout of the status bar fields needs to be re-thought. I've currently got the editor set to about 90-columns wide, with 13-point Lucida Calligraphy font. At this dimension, many of the fields on the status bar are not visible (REC, COL, OVR). Yet, the Line/Char field is 150 pixels wide, and about 2/3 of that is unused!! and the third field I have NO idea what it is (it says 296, which is definitely not the file size, and doesn't change with the cursor); maybe it could be removed?

Either way, I think the Line/Char field could be reduced (maybe dynamically sized, based on need ??), and the main status field could itself by dynamically resized so that other status fields are not lost.

The 3rd column is the total number of Lines (rows) in the document.

Mmm... I don't quite understand how ya got those fields to dissapear; with default font, the window has to be TINY for them to get cut off... (77 columns with 5 digit line gutter makes the first pixel get cut off; OVR dissapears completelly on 74 columns)

But ya do have a point on the size of the line/char box... working on a 130,000 lines file there is still quite a bit of unused space...
however... ya never know how large a file someone's gunna work on...

Actually, Im using 14-point Lucida Calligraphy for text, and I maintain my lines at 80 columns or so. I'd like to be able to resize the window to fit that text without wasting empty space, but when I do so, the right hand status-bar columns do, in fact, get eliminated!!

This is happening with 241 even more seriously - on mine, using whichever font CE has used for the status bar since around 2004, I'm seeing that when CE is maximised, I have the right-hand edge of the O, the full V and no R from the OVR toggle light (and only the text itself highlights)

If I de-maximise it, I see even less of it...
